Mother Mae Frances Brockington Gurley departed her earthly life for eternal life, Sunday, August 25, 2019 to be with the Lord.

Mother Frances Gurley was born April 16, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Archie and Retha Douglas Brockington. She was married to and preceded in death by the late Mr. Elbert Nathaniel Gurley, Sr; other family members who preceded her in death were; sons, sons, David Gurley, Elbert Gurley, Jr and Nathaniel Gurley; daughters, Queenie Mae Muldrow, Shirley Gurley Johnson, and Evelyn Washington; brothers,

Brockington, John Brockington, Lonza Brockington; sisters, Louise Brockington.

She was educated in the public schools of Florence, SC. Mother Gurley was a Nanny, and sharecropper. She loved cooking, was best known for her tender “Collard Greens’, “Hoppin’ John” (peas & rice), and especially her stove top “Cornbread” and sweet tea.

Mother Gurley attended Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Inc, where she received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She was ordained to the Greater Gethsemane’s Mothers’ Board. Despite her two knee surgeries, Mother Gurley was a “Praiser”. Most every Sunday she would get up and give God the praise, dancing across the floor. She would tell you right from wrong. She said, while you’re trying to figure it out, the Lord done worked it out. When Mother Gurley spoke, she always ended her conversation with, I Love You. At an early age she was baptized joined Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, where she served as an Usher and a member of the Senior Missionary Society.

Mother Frances Gurley was a devoted Christian Mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, and a loving friend to those who knew her.

Cherishing Mother Gurley’s precious memories are: her loving children, five sons, Bishop Harry Lee Brockington, John Gurley, Willie Gurley, Deacon Chuckley (Barbara) Gurley, Deacon Phillip Gurley all of Florence, South Carolina; three daughters, Bobbie (Deacon Sylvester) Moody, Viola (Robert) Hines and Carrie Lee Bradford all of Florence, SC; one brother, Deacon Luwayne (Mary) Brockington; one sister, Florence Grant all of Florence, SC; nieces, nephews, aunts; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and friends.
