On January 5, 2020, our beloved Ruth A. McKnight affectionately known as “Aunt Ruth” departed this earthly life to a better home.

Mrs. Ruth Adamson McKnight, daughter of the late William and Lizzie Gregg Adamson was born on May 18, 1927. She was married to the late Mr. William Cain McKnight who graciously supported her many endeavors. She was preceded in death by her seven siblings: James and Wesley Adamson; Lillie Bell Cooper, Laura and Mattie McKnight, Diane McManus, and Sharon Williametta Adamson Epps.

She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Claflin University, Orangeburg, South Carolina, and a Master’s Degree in Guidance Counseling from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina and additional studies at South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, South Carolina.

Her entire teaching profession was spent at Battery Park Elementary and High School in Nesmith, South Carolina.

Aunt Ruth was a dedicated member and staunch supporter of Bethesda United Methodist Church where she has held numerous positions such as: Stewardship Chairperson, Finance Committee, Administrative Council, Lay Servant, Combine Choir and United Methodist Women.

While attending Claflin she was inducted into the Mu Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority in 1947. She was a charter member of Delta Tau Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Kingstree South Carolina, a member of the Order of Eastern Star, NAACP, Williamsburg County Retired Educators Association, Vital Aging, Clemson Extension Club (FCL), Williamsburg County Enterprise and many other prestige organizations around the low country where she has received honorable mentions.

She had her own business venture, McKnight’s Notary and Tax Service. She worked diligently with Volunteer Income Tax Assistant annually.

She was the recipient of many honors and awards to mention a few, Fifty Year award from the Order of Eastern Star, Zeta of the Year Award, and the Poster Child of the Diabetes Coalition.

Her hobbies were reading, sewing, and helping anyone who is in need of her assistance. Her motto was: “If I can help somebody as I travel along the way, then my living will not be in vain”.

Love ones who will cherish her memory forever are: her loving son Wilfred McKnight and three adorable grandchildren: Delfrieda McKnight, William McKnight, and Macala Farmer and one great-grandchild, Neveah McKnight all from Columbia, SC. Two special nieces she called as her daughter; Ms. Jannie M. Covington and Pastor Josa McIntosh both of Kingstree, SC. One Daughter-In-Law: Deborah McKnight of Columbia, SC. One sister; Mrs. Juanita Singletary, of Richmond, VA; one brother-in-law; Mr. Gilmore McManus of Andrews, SC; three special friends; Mrs. A. D. Bradford, Manning, SC; Mrs. Ethel Brown, Goldsboro, NC; Mrs. Jean McKnight, Lake City, SC; a very special friend of Wilfred and hers; Ms. Gloria Farmer of the home. Two Loving Godchildren: Dobran Farmer (Shannon) and Deziraye S. Farmer and a loving and caring Godson, Rev. Roderick McKnight, Lake City, SC; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
